What is Lamination?

Lamination is the application of a plastic film to the surface of an item.  By adding a plastic coating to the paper, an item becomes more durable with a quality, professional-looking finish.

The items that benefit from lamination are endless.  Many paper products are laminated for protection from fingerprints, smudges and other damage.  Some items are laminated because the color and contrast of the print is enhanced.

Identification cards, menus, instructions and other items to be handled frequently can all benefit from lamination.  Lamination keeps materials in like-new condition for many years, preserving color and increasing durability.  Laminated paper can be used for presentation purposes, without additional backing or frames, creating a variety of opportunities for display.

The concept of lamination is simple, though the development of this well-used process has not been easy.  Laminators today have been refined and perfected for decades, producing two of the most common types, the pouch laminator and roll laminator.

There are also a variety of film types, including clear and delustered.  Clear laminating film is the most popular, because it enhances colors very well and has a sheen finish.  Delustered film has a matte or non-glare finish, ideal for reading material.

Using a high quality laminator will preserve and protect your documents and important papers from everyday wear and tear. Click here to read about the many benefits of a laminator from Factory Express.
